About the Visa
- Points tested stream
This visa lets invited workers with skills we need, to live and work permanently anywhere in Australia.
- New Zealand stream
This visa lets eligible New Zealand citizens who have demonstrated commitment and contribution to Australia, live and work in Australia permanently.
- Hong Kong stream
This visa lets eligible Hong Kong or British National (Overseas) passport holders who have demonstrated commitment to Australia, live and work in Australia permanently.

The visa costs AUD4,640.00 for the main applicant.
- New Zealand stream
The visa costs AUD4,240 for the main applicant.
- Hong Kong stream
The visa costs AUD4,640.00 for the main applicant.
DURATION
This is a permanent visa.
It lets you stay in Australia indefinitely. The visa has a travel component that expires 5 years after the date of visa grant.
You become a permanent resident on the day of the grant of the visa.
Eligibility Requirements
- Points tested stream
- Have an occupation on the relevant skilled occupation list
- Be invited to apply
- Have a suitable skills assessment
- You must be aged under 45 when you are invited to apply for the visa
- Be able to score 65 points or more
- Must have at least a competent level of English
- Meet skills requirement
- Meet the health requirement
- Meet character requirement
- Have paid back your debt to the Australian government
- Sign the Australian values statement
- Not have had a visa cancelled or a previous application refused
- New Zealand stream
The Skilled Independent (subclass 189) (New Zealand stream) visa permanently closed to new applications on 01 July 2023.
- Hongkong stream
- Hold a Hong Kong passport or a British National (Overseas) passport
- Meet certain visa and residence requirements
- Have an eligible visa
- Lived in Australia for 4 years
- Have complied with the conditions of your eligible visa
- Have a functional level of English, or pay the second instalment of the visa application charge when asked for it
- Meet the health requirement
- Meet character requirement
- Have paid back your debt to the Australian government
- Sign the Australian values statement
- Not have had a visa cancelled or a previous application refused
